Eric and Ava just jetted off to Norway today (they hope to see the northern lights, I hope they don't get frostbitten!), and, as Eli and I cuddling on the couch with a movie and a bowl of popcorn doesn't exactly seem like riveting blog material, I thought I would give you this little "blast from the past"...

In March of 2007, Eric and I took the kids to Cork, Ireland. We visited the beach (the water was really warm for March!). Now, I honestly have no idea if southern Ireland borders on the north sea, Irish sea,
umm, or the Adriatic sea (to name the one's I know...I spent seventh grade geography daydreaming about boys and clothes...but I digress...) Anyway, whatever the formal name for this particular body of water, I remember the kids having a great time playing in the sand and throwing rocks in the water!

Out on a little island off the coast, there was this amazing zoo where the animals had so much more room to roam than in a regular zoo!

Some of the animals got a little close... I guess Llamas aren't dangerous enough to put behind the wooden fence!

So, here we are on the grounds of Blarney Castle. Ava, ever the mountain goat, climbed just about every rock on the property. Eli tried to eat a few rocks, then fell asleep.

Ava posses on the "Witches Stone". There was also a Witches oven, and Witches stairway...kinda makes you wonder about the previous owners, huh?

Eli looks just thrilled to pieces to be sitting in a tree doesn't he?

Ava so badly wanted to kiss the "
Baloney Stone", and I did drag both her and Eli all the way to the top of the castle to do just that. (It was pretty scary too...no guard rails or anything!) But the "rock kissing monitor guy" wouldn't let me dangle my 3 year old daughter over the edge of a castle to kiss the stone....no sense of adventure, that one! So, we had to find an alternative rock for Ava to kiss as her very own "Baloney stone"!

Blarney Castle

It was quite a ways up, I suppose. But, both my kids can say they have been to the top!

It was a pretty great trip. Seems like just the other day too....
